Decades before the famous Pilgrims landed at Massachusetts Bay in 1620, the great European explorers stepped upon the shore of a new world at the mouth of the Piscataqua River. Where the clear water of the Piscataqua joins the vastness of the great Atlantic Ocean much of the early history of America took place. Here, Piscataway Plantation was started and grew to become the first colonial Navy port. From the very beginning of those early times, the surname "Brackett" has been forever etched into American history. Brackett men, women, and children crossed the great depths of the Atlantic in tall ships to settle a vast hostile wilderness and form a new nation. These Brackett pioneers endured tremendous hardship to help transformed a wilderness into a center of provincial colonial power. That provincial power became the new world's pinnacle of commerce for European kings and lords.
Richly steeped in history, the Brackett family heritage has survive for 400 years in America and eight centuries in England.
